Usaburo Sato has been designing clothes in partnership with traditional weaving communities in Thailand and Laos for the last twenty years. Aside from producing beautiful hand woven and hand dyed clothes, USAATO’s ethos of circular manufacturing, where worker and environmental well being is centred, is a much needed departure from fashion industry norms of disposability.

Zassō, Plymouth Fringe Festival, May 30th, 2019

Zassō is a newly formed taiko project from Taiko Journey, who’s focus is to move away from some traditional aspects of taiko, using it at a tool for social and environmental change. Taiko groups are often named after natural things with majesty and grace. Zassō is the Japanese word for weeds. Their strength, resilience, tenacity and adventurous nature means they are a nightmare to get rid of; it’s best to appreciate them for what they are and let them grow! After all, the difference between a flower and a weed is only judgement. Join us for just under an hour of erupting energy as Zassō share a collaboration performance of dance and music. The show will take the audience on a captivating journey of high impact drumming and movement, displaying complexities in rhythm and expression. This is not just any taiko show, come along an experience Zassō’s unique creations. Our Show is not any taiko show – it will be imperfect, uncultivated and a bit wild. Just like us!
