About the Taiko Journey Collective…
The Taiko Journey Collective is our family of taiko drummers coming together to play or perform. There is no official membership to this group in order to keep it open, fluid and flexible. Our youngest member started at age 5 and our oldest member to date is in her late 70s. Currently there is a regular class on a Monday evening at the Kenn Centre, Exeter, but regularly meet at South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton, and The House Theatre, Plymouth University.
We actively encourage a true connection with others in the group. In addition to a weekly session, we meet up once a month to practice playing, but also to share food together, help to maintain the drums, and talk about arising issues from costume decisions to logistics. We ensure everyone is heard, and everyone feels not only welcome but integral to the group.
Through movement, joy and discipline, we overcome personal barriers together and manifest the power of teamwork. The Taiko Journey Collective is where people find their rhythm, keep fit, and make new friends. We are all about empowering people to believe in themselves and reach their potential. Taiko Journey’s goal is always to nurture a group to be self-sufficient and never reliant on any one person “teach” in order to practice or perform.
